Description

Red Squirrel Lodge is a favourite Boat of Garten accommodation provider. It sits within a beautiful courtyard with off road parking & is the perfect location for your family getaway.
A superb holiday lodge accommodating up to 8 guests in 3 bedrooms - with the first floor providing beautifully designed bedrooms which are all en-suite and offer a sumptuous nights sleep.
There is a king sized bedroom, double bedroom and twin room with an additional sofa bed, then an open plan kitchen & living area provides a wonderful area for guests to eat, chat and relax with stunning views over the garden and Cairngorms. Plenty of storage space will allow you to unpack and feel at home during your stay.

Outside you will find a raised deck with dining area and, after a hard day exploring, don't forget to check out the outdoor hot tub! You can sink into the bubbles and soak in the view of the spectacular Cairngorm mountains. Heading down towards the garden you will find a bike store and The Squirrel’s Drey play area.

Situated less than half a mile away from Boat of Garten village, the idyllic surroundings are perfect for walkers and cyclists with endless miles of forest roads and trails to explore, or simply for those looking to pursue the plethora of outdoor activities or some relaxing downtime on offer within nearby Aviemore.

There is plenty to do in the surrounding area. Take a stroll around Boat of Garten village which provides a tranquil area with remarkable views, a restaurant, cafes, post office and shop.
Have some coffee and cake in one of the cafes and check out the beautiful Loch Vaa.

Why not jump on the Boat Of Garten Vintage Steam Train and take a ride to Aviemore? Aviemore is only a 10 minute drive away and here you can take part in a variety of outdoor activities including skiing on the Cairngorm Mountains, quad biking, zip lining and so much more! For those that are interested in checking out the wildlife, contact Speyside Wildlife to arrange bird watching or guided tours.

Location

Boat of Garten is a peaceful village set amongst heather clad hills and native woodlands in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park.
Ideally located, lying adjacent to the mighty River Spey in the Cairngorms National Park, Boat of Garten is an area of outstanding natural beauty. It's the perfect place to explore the surrounding countryside or simply unwind.

Abundant wildlife, magnificent scenery, many sporting and leisure activities and a traditional Highland welcome await visitors to this lovely village with activities ranging from playing golf at the James Braid designed 18-hole golf course, fishing the Spey, cycling on excellent tracks and quiet roads or travelling on a scenic steam railway!
Just a mile and a half from Boat of Garten is Abernethy Forest RSPB Reserve on the shore of Loch Garten.
Between April and August visitors can see the famous ospreys at their nest, hopefully with some chicks, while in spring there is a good chance of spotting capercaillie, especially in the early morning hours.

The Cairngorms National Park is absolutely full of scenic variety and endless natural wonders for you to enjoy. The rare wildlife stronghold of the National park, and a landscape shaped by the ice ages makes this location an exciting and treasure trove of fun to explore.

Ramble across the Cairngorm hills which were formed when the last age covered this country. With the landscapes characterised by high, rounded humps carved through spectacular and deep gorges the variety of geology in the area is truly remarkable.

The National park is home to a fantastic array of rare wildlife. Just over one quarter of Britain's 400+ most rare and endangered wildlife species are protected within the park. If you are lucky (and quiet!) you might spot such species as the osprey, red kite, golden eagle, otter and pine marten, sheltering in amongst the sub-Arctic and mountain plants.

The glens of Isla, Prosen, Clova and Mark are well known destinations for walkers as they are all easily accessible by car. They offer low level walks but also provide access to tougher long distance hikes into the south east section of the park.

As well as the impressive uplands in the area the lochs and rivers in the region are home to some world class salmon fishing, wildlife and habitats making it yet another area not to be missed. The waters offer a variety of scenic delights including gorges, waterfalls and tranquil expanses of streams.

For woodland and forest walks visit Loch an Eilein on the Rothiemurchus Estate in the heart of Caledonian Pine Forest. Or if you are in search of a beach visit Loch Morlich where the sandy expanse proves popular with fisherman and water sports enthusiasts.

Many attractions are connected with the area's history or wildlife and are great places to learn more about the natural wonders that surround you. Whether you have a passion for wildlife, whisky or walking, or simply want to have fun, you will never be short of something new to experience in this wonderful area of The Cairngorms National Park.

We had a fabulous time at Red Squirrel Lodge. It was such a beautiful place, so peaceful and relaxing. The trains passing the back door make it even more magical, the kids loved that. The house was even better than we expected. Stunning big rooms, hotel style bedding and extremely clean. This is pet friendly too so our dogs felt right at home. Location wise it’s ideal, short drive away from Aviemore where we found many shops and places to eat. For days out we went to Landmark (<10 min drive), brilliant place for the kids. We also went to the Cairngorm Mountain Park and Loch Morlich. Get this place booked, I would definitely visit again.

An amazing location, peaceful, and bigger than appeared in the photos. Very well equipped kitchen, comfy beds and clean bathrooms. Great to see the steam train at the bottom of the garden, and the local village shop is very convenient and well stocked. We all really enjoyed it, and hope to come back, rarely do we find ourselves not wanting to leave quite as much as this one!!
